An Inspirational Story

Just Five More Minutes

While at the park one day,
a woman sat down next to a man
on a bench near a playground.
“That’s my son over there,” she said,
pointing to a little boy in a red sweater
who was gliding down the slide.
“He’s a fine looking boy” the man said.
“That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”
Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter.
“What do you say we go, Melissa?”
Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad.
Please? Just five more minutes.”
The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike
to her heart’s content.
Minutes passed and the father stood
and called again to his daughter.
“Time to go now?”
Again Melissa pleaded,
“Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”
The man smiled and said, “OK.”
“My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.
The man smiled and then said,
“Her older brother Tommy was killed
by a drunk driver last year
while he was riding his bike near here.
I never spent much time with Tommy
and now I’d give anything
for just five more minutes with him.
I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.
She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike.
The truth is, I get Five more minutes to watch her play.”
Life is all about making priorities.

What is your favorite thing about Spring?

The Perfect Mother

I googled 'the perfect mother' tonight

because tomorrow is my Mommy's Birthday-

and I wanted to find a nice way to celebrate her.

In 21 minutes My Mom will be a whole year older.

ehow has an article with 6 tips on how to be the perfect mother:

1. Understand your child is unique.

(She always did. She still does.)

2. Follow your instincts.

(She followed the Bible)

3. Be your own kind of Mom.

(Whatever this means, she did it : )

4. Acknowledge that being a mother is trial and error.

(This is one of my favorite things about my Mom.

She will always say "I am sorry. I messed up.

Will you forgive me?"

I think it takes a big person to do that.)

5. Treat this like a job.

(My Mom stayed home with me until I was in 5th

grade. I always knew that her favorite thing

in all the world was being my Mom.

She made me feel valuable

and special every single day.

I love that she raised us like that.)
6. Know when to step back.
(She let me make mistakes and she watched me grow.

She was always a safe place to land during my sad times.)

I've said it before.

And I am sure I will say it again.
If I can be just 1/10th of the Mom my Mom is...

Well, then, I know I will have done a great job.

She is perfect in every way.

I love her mightily.

A very SPECIAL surprise

Last night was Bible Study so Kaish got to bed LATE.

Like almost 2-hours-later-than-normal late.

You can just imagine with me how delightful he is

the morning after...

(I assure you it is something you would never forget)

Needless to say, getting to school in happy spirits was difficult.

It was a chaotic day.

Tons of appointments, etc.

I brought him home from school and shortly after our arrival

Lo and Behold there is a catastrophe in the bathroom.

I am not sure of the exact details...

but somehow,

Chuck E. Cheese tokens ended up in the toliet.

Please imagine with me if you will,

after reaching into the toliet and pulling out some

highly valuable Chuck E. Cheese tokens

(because seriously, that's how glamorous my life is)

hearing these words

"Guess What, Mom?!?! My homework tonight

is to play this new recorder.

I get to play it EVERY night for 30 minutes.

It's the best homework ever"

It's so beautiful.

(if you like the sound of honking geese...

He is at home and a physical therapist comes to work with him for 4 hours every day of the week. He still has no feeling in his side. He is talking better each week. He continues to be discouraged about the stroke. He feels sad and hopeless most days. Please keep him in your prayers if possible! Thanks!

I went to a fake purse party this weekend.

I asked some of my blogging friends what I should get.

A story to make you cry...

Being A Mother...

After 17 years of marriage,

my wife wanted me to take another woman

out to dinner and a movie.

She said, 'I love you,

but I know this other woman loves you

and would love to spend some time with you.'

The other woman

that my wife wanted me to visit

was my Mother,

who has been alone for 20 years,

but the demands of my work

and my two boys

had made it possible to visit her only occasionally

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.

'What's wrong, aren't you well,' she asked?

My mother is the type of woman who suspects

that a late night call

or a surprise invitation is a sign

of bad news

'I thought it would be pleasant

to spend sometime with you,' I responded.
'Just the two of us.'

She thought about it for a moment,

and then said, 'I would like that very much.'

That Friday after work,

as I drove over to pick her up,

I was a bit nervous.

When I arrived at her house,

I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous

about our date.

She waited in the door.

She had curled her hair
and was wearing the dress

that she had worn to celebrate

her last birthday.

She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's.

'I told my friends that I was going

to go out with my son,

and they were impressed,' she said,

'They can't wait to hear about our date'.

We went to a restaurant that,

although not elegant, was very nice and cozy.

My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady

After we sat down, I had to read the menu.

Her eyes could only read large print.

Half way through the entries,

I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me.

A nostalgic smile was on her lips

'It was I who used to have to read the menu

when you were small,' she said.

'Then it's time that you relax

and let me return the favor,' I responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation

nothing extraordinary but catching up

on recent events of each other's life.

We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later, she said,

'I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.'

I agreed.

'How was your dinner date?'

asked my wife when I got home.

'Very nice. Much more so

than I could have imagined,' I answered.

A few days later, my mother died

of a massive heart attack.

It happened so suddenly that I didn't

have a chance to do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope

with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place

mother and I had dined.

An attached note said:

'I paid this bill in advance.

I wasn't sure that Icould be there;

but nevertheless, I paid for two plates -

one for you and the other for your wife.

You will never know what that night meant for me.

I love you, son.'

At that moment, I understood the importance

of saying in time: 'I LOVE YOU'

Nothing in life is more important than your family.

Give them the time they deserve,

because these things cannot

be put off till 'some other time.'

the Wizard of Oz

Kaish and I went on a fun adventure last night.

We went to see The Wizard of Oz.

(L. Frank Baun version)

It was so good!

I think it was the best play I ever saw.

And believe me, I have seen some great plays.

BBC's drama department was fantastic.

If you live near here at all,

Try to go next weekend.

You will not be disappointed!

A fake Coach bag

Gary got it for me at a flea market

a long time ago when we were dating.

I have used it every day since.

It's the best work bag ever : ).

I also have a fake black alligator skin Hermes bag.
Jen likes to make fun of me because

I always tell people the purse is fake.

She says I do NOT need to inform people of this

as it is a $60,000 bag

and there is NO possible way anyone thinks it is real...

Anyway, I kind of LOVE this
