Yesterday I was a real social worker : ). I worked from 7:00 am until 9:00. (PM of course!) I made so many home visits it would make you cry. I came home last night at 10:15 and I was EXHAUSTED...but also happy.
I have missed doing home visits this summer.
I didn't miss the dirty houses but I did miss the people.
I didn't miss the search for a parking spot but I did miss the children.
I didn't miss the crude comments from drunk and high people on the streets, but I did miss the smiles.
I love my job. I love the children and families in the city of Philadelphia. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have to work with humanity.
Listen to this song. God of this City. I am so glad God loves these children and families. I do too!

What a beautiful song, and you are such a giving loving person. I admire you for being so selfless.
Those people are lucky to have you!
Hi Rebeckah, take a break from caring from others and come tell us about YOU. I have tagged you for a double game of MIMI (or whatever it's called :) )
Thanks for stopping by the Land of Pink. Have a great weekend with that beautiful family!
How did I not realize that you are a social worker??? At one point in college I was planning on going that route, but then I figured out that social workers are underpaid and overworked and I decided to just save one kid at a time through foster care....that didn't get any farther than the first one either ;) Anyway, I have tons of respect for people who actually stick it out with social work. Except, I didn't like feeling like we were under a microscope when we had our home visits as foster parents -- not that we were, I just had it in my mind that that was the way it was.
